Understanding Certification Scope in Industrial Packaging
First published in January 2024, this article introduced several standards and certification topics mentioned on the earlier Polytainer website. For a purchase decision, request the current certificate or supporting document, confirm its scope and validity, and connect it to the proposed manufacturing site and packaging configuration.
ISO 9001 and Quality Management
The earlier article referred to ISO 9001 in the context of quality management. For current qualification, ask for the applicable certificate, its site and activity scope, and its validity dates. A management-system certificate does not by itself approve every product or intended use.
UN Packaging for Dangerous-Goods Transport
For dangerous-goods packaging, request the evidence for the specific design, components and closure arrangement. Confirm the conditions and limitations that apply to the intended shipment. A general statement that a supplier offers UN packaging is not approval for every model, substance or journey.
FSSC 22000 and the Certified Scope
The earlier article referred to FSSC 22000. Ask for the current certificate and verify which site, activities and scope it covers. Keep this review separate from the food-contact evidence required for the actual container, closure and intended food use.
Halal Certification and the Applicable Scope
Where Halal documentation is required, ask for the current certificate and confirm the issuing body, covered site or products, validity and acceptance for the intended market. Avoid assuming that a historical article or logo establishes current coverage for every proposed package.
Good Manufacturing Practice Documentation
The earlier article discussed GMP practices. Ask which requirements and quality-control procedures apply to the proposed packaging and which supporting documents are available. A general description of manufacturing practice is not evidence of a separate, current certificate.
A useful qualification record connects each document to its scope, validity and intended application. Resolve gaps with the supplier and your quality team before approving the final specification.
